Firefighter injured while battling Northwest Fresno house fire

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno firefighter is recovering after being injured while battling a house fire early Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to the home on Prospect near Alluvial in Northwest Fresno shortly after 1 a.m. The first arriving crews saw flames coming from the attic and called for a second alarm.

A battalion chief says one firefighter suffered an "orthopedic injury" to his lower leg and was taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center for evaluation. There's no word yet on his condition or what started the fire.
